Hello Easy Divers Cyprus!

I have attached a letter to explain to you the experience you gave me while i was on hoilday in Cyprus, recently.

Dear Stuart and Easy Divers,

I would like to say a very big thank you for the overwhelming experience you gave me whilst I was on holiday. It was an experience of a life time, something I never thought I would be able to achieve. When you approached me when I was in the swimming pool at the Constaninos Hotel and asked me if I would like to try your scuba diving equipment I hastily declined. Even thought I wanted to I believed that due to my MS it would not be possible as I am wheelchair bound. I was overjoyed when you reassured me that my illness would not stop me from being able to take part in you request if it was something that I wanted to do.

After spending time using the equipment in the pool with you I felt so exhilarated from the whole experience and I was so proud of what I had achieved. You then asked me if I would be interested in snorkelling in a nearby cove on an underwater sea safari. I was so excited to be given this opportunity I new straight away that it was something that I wanted to do. We arranged a time and then met the following morning.

After getting geared up at the cove I was carried over a few rocks in my wheelchair and into the sea. You then helped me out of my wheelchair when we reached a certain depth at all times ensuring my safety and making sure I was fully informed of what was happening and when. You then explained all of the procedures involved in snorkelling and off we went. I found the sites breathtaking the shoals of tiny fish, larger fish and all kinds of fish all of which were beautiful colours. It was out of this world I never imagined it would be so beautiful. When you handed me a bag of breadcrumbs to feed them I never thought for one moment they would eat it out of my hand let alone that so many would come rushing up to me to take it out of my hands I was that happy I found it hard not to cry. I remember when you dived down to fish rock and came up with two stones and banged them together, fish came from everywhere truly a site to behold. Moments later you pointed me in the direction of three squid they where absolutely beautiful and we managed to get right up close as we was on the scooter at this point. This was something that you said you had never seen in the cove before. It was all a new experience for me but I was glad that you were able to share a new experience for you with me.

There were many other divers around us when we were getting out of the bay and even though we didn’t not know all of them there was this invisible bond between everybody and everyone was so willing to help lifting me over the rocks. The atmosphere was incredible it made the experience even more enjoyable and memorable. I would like to gratefully thank you for giving me such a surreal experience. I will be back in September as discussed to do a scuba dive with a letter off my doctor in hand. I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you for not only the experience but in helping me achieve what I thought was impossible.

Many Thanks see you soon!
Denise Badland.

Thank you
Denise

I dove the wreck of the Zenobia on Sunday, July 1, 2006 with EZ Divers. The Zenobia is a 560 foot Swedish roll-on, roll-off ferry that sank in Larnaca harbour (Cyprus) on her maiden voyage in 1980. She now lies on her port side in approximately 138 feet of sea water.

I highly recommend this dive and EZ Divers to anybody who will be visiting Cyprus. We did two dives, the first exploring the cargo hold, the aft ramp doors of the ship, and the screws and the second exploring the front of the ship including the bow, the dining room, the bridge, and a lifeboat. The Zenobia was carrying just over 100 Lorries (trucks) and many of them are still visible in the hold or at the bottom where they spilled onto the sea floor during the sinking. Swimming through the restaurant and the bridge is a cool experience, which offers ample exit points with natural light visible at all times in the event of an emergency. There is no current in the harbour and visibility is excellent.

EZ Divers, like many of the dive shops on Cyprus, is run and staffed by British expats. The Divemasters are friendly and laid back and don't micromanage the diving. EZ Divers is a good choice as well because they offer free transportation from hotels in Ayia Napa (and Protaras) to the dive site and back. They don't run their own boat, but like most of the other dive ops, share. A nice lunch on the boat is included with the trip.

The Zenobia is a can't-miss dive for anybody headed to Cyprus.

Good afternoon,

Just wanted to drop you a line and say how much I have recently enjoyed the last 2 weeks.

I was a candidate in the IDC in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt (IE 4-5 Dec) with Emperor divers, being conducted by Joey A. Ridge (From EZ divers - Cyprus). I was nervous and apprehensive about the course, and had been revising for months, but was put immediately at ease when I met him. Very easy to get along with and as a result, I had the most enjoyable 2 weeks I could have ever hoped for.

I knew the IDC course was never going to be easy due to the amount of work and knowledge needed to complete it, but I think I have came out of this a much better diver, with a lot better understanding of what it means to work with, and get the best out of your students.

The time seemed to fly by and before I knew it, the IE was upon me, but I felt more than ready due to the training received and was successful in my exams. I couldn't have been happier!!!

I would thoroughly recommend anyone hoping to become an instructor to seek Joey out, and would appreciate it if you could pass on my comments to him.

Many thanks to Dave and Chris, who were the examiners, good time had by all.

Regards

Ryan Macey

The Love of Diving:
“The benefit is that I’m doing something that I love. I’ve been fortunate to surround myself with individuals who dive and like diving, and who like to share diving with other people who are becoming divers and who are divers. So from that standpoint, you really can’t ask for a much better job.”
- David O'Donnel

Opportunity to Teach:
“It’s been a great opportunity for me to not only meet a lot of great people, but to see somebody start out at the very beginning and progress all the way to PADI Master Scuba Diver or Divemaster or even Instructor. So, I mean, that’s obviously very gratifying.” - Rick Newton

Lifestyle:
“I have the best job in the world. You know, any job where you can come into work in shorts and T-shirts or casual shirts every day and wear flip-flops – what a wonderful job.” - Nick Jenny

Self Improvement:
“To teach is to learn and I love to do both. Diving provides the opportunity to learn math, biology, physics, history, physiology and communication skills. What other sport really allows you to learn while having so much fun. Plus, diving helps keep me in shape. Try doing that with an office job.” - Ted Moreta

Enjoy Outdoor Activities:
“It’s the opportunity to be outdoors, to be one with nature. To experience an element not originally intended for people. The things you get to see underwater are amazing. I just like to feel weightless and free to move as I wish. My office is the ocean. All you desk-dwelling workers out there – eat your hearts out. You want to be me!” - Jason Hannah

A Passion to Care for the Environment:
Many instructors cite their first dive as a life changing experience. For this reason, many are very dedicated to sharing that experience with others and to helping to preserve that experience for future generations. They become actively involved in activities such as underwater cleanups, coral restoration projects and helping to educate people, especially children, about the environment.

“We touch the lives of others in ways we often never know. People sometimes come into our personal world for fleeting moments and can leave us forever changed”
A Life Changing Experience! We have more power to create or to destroy, than we can ever imagine. We can leave things or individuals better or worse than we found them. A look, a word, a gesture has tremendous impact and frequently we blither along through our existence unaware of the mighty power that our communication wields. Here’s my story:

It was a rainy, humid day: the mother of all bad hair days. Just another cold dark winter’s day in England. I was taking a bus into town. The windows on the bus were covered in condensation so thick you couldn't see outside. Everyone was wilting and wet. I was sitting next to a man in a business suit and didn't pay much attention, looking into oblivion, until we both got off at the same stop and walked to the same newspaper stand to get a morning paper.

The man, owner of the stand was obviously having a bad day too. He was rude, abrupt and unsmiling as we bought our papers, with the news headlines to only add more gloom to my day. The businessman caught my eye and smiled. He then proceeded to smile brightly, thanked the newsstand proprietor for the paper and for being open on such a cold morning, making sure we were able to get our papers. In short, he expressed his appreciation for something most of us would take for granted.

The man running the newsstand responded only with a grunt and sour expressions. The businessman then pleasantly wished him a pleasant day. As we turned away, I asked this man why he had continued to be pleasant to the newsagent owner when he obviously didn't care about and didn't respond to his expression of appreciation and friendliness.

The businessman grinned at me and said, "Why would I let someone else control what I say and what I feel or what kind of day I'm going to have?"
"Diving and teaching can be a passion which changes your life and you can change other peoples life’s too"

You can say that again! It is a life changing experience for me...
PADI Course Director, Joey A. Ridge

I know how difficult it is to choose the right place to make your IDC, so the choice is obvious! Little did you know that you could have picked a world class experienced Course Director!

Joey’s passion for teaching Scuba has led to the creation of his Knowledge, Experience and Internship Scuba Training Courses. This is Joey’s commitment to support of Internship, IDC’s and the PADI Staff Instructors are taught. Prior Knowledge, materials helps us keep up to date and we like to be at the cutting edge of the dive industry, knowing this you can rest assure that Joey’s expertise is second to none.

Joey A. Ridge was born in the UK, where he lived until he was 18 and graduated from college. From that time, my passion was in Scuba Diving, I got my first seasonal Diving Job in Greece. I returned to Greece for three summers, working and gaining experience from a variety diving of centres.
My feet began to get hot and again, I travelled to the USA, helping dive centres in Florida, California and Hawaii. Australia wasn’t far, so I travelled over there and stayed a couple of years.

But the most fun to be had for me was working in ASIA, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
There I had the pleasure to work for many good reputable Dive Schools, gaining valuable experiences along the way. I lived and worked as a PADI Instructor and Underwater Photographer, Videographer in places around the world. The last 10 years I have been teaching the Padi System and conducting IDC’s.

I am the youngest local resident PADI Course Director in Cyprus. As I am English I speak English, Greek and a little Swedish. With support from my PADI Staff Instructors, I can teach IDC Courses in English, Greek, German, French, Finish, Swedish and Danish.

Now here in Cyprus for over 12 years, I have established myself and Easy Divers Cyprus with a firm foot hold in the dive industry here in Cyprus. Joey has a time-honoured and valued opinion as an Honorary Committee Member in the Cyprus Dive Centre Association (CDCA)

EZDivers Cyprus has a comprehensive selection of top Scuba Professional Traineeship programs, some designed by Joey himself. The Go Pro Scuba Internship caters for all budgets. Go from complete novice to Dive Master; take a look at our Instructor Internship / Trainee Programs. You can have that life changing Scuba Job and not only a dream wish.
Joey also runs the most dynamic, updated PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDC) in Cyprus. A full multimedia, network of computerized classrooms: laptops, LCD projectors, video etc. We will ensure that your PADI IDC experience is the most up to date, comprehensive and professional available.

Although PADI requires an IDC to have a minimum duration of 7 days we have found some extra presentations and workshops highly beneficial to our candidates' success. To accommodate these extra presentations, workshops and courses that we have integrated into our program, we have found an 8 – 9 day Prep and IDC more ideal.

Extra workshops include our DM/IDC Prep: Ascents & Descents, Buoyancy control, Buddy Breathing both swimming and stationary, Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA), Rescue and Student Control, both under water and at the surface an added bonus.

Joey is always very helpful, friendly, thorough, funny, approachable, knowledgeable and professional. He somehow makes the gruelling IDC courses a lot of fun. All of Joey’s instructor candidates have passed 100%. Joey is determined that each person he teaches gets individual attention and personalised counselling. He doesn't just teach someone to pass the exams; he is passionate that his candidates are confident and knowledgeable and prepared to be an effective PADI Scuba instructor in the ever changing world of the dive industry. Joey’s motto is ‘You either know it or you don’t’.

One of my Staff Instructors once told me, I never realised just how much you taught me and I now realise the more I teach, not only in your Instructor Development Courses, the more I put into practice your training styles, you taught me to be a better teacher...how to pace a class and cover all course requirements but still keep it fun. Thank you. Joey you are such a great role model.

When I teach, I tell all my new students, that this day, I will learn something new from all of you?
To all new instructors, I say you will definitely learn something from every new course you teach, from all the students you train!

For one instance, PADI teaches us how important positive feedback is for our students. I love to watch this in action; I see how proud my students looks when I tell them that they performed a skill just right, Perfect!! One of my very first Open Water students took the time to write some positive comments about me and PADI passed it on to me. It was really nice to get that feedback.

This reminded me that my students aren't the only ones that deserve positive reinforcement! We all do, so I wanted to take the time to say THANKS!!! To all my students and New Padi Instructor Candidates who train here, I hope to pass on my relaxed positive attitude to everyone that joins me at Easy Divers Cyprus for their training.

As I promised my feedback about the e-learning:

E-learning was great. Before the holiday I could learn the whole material. Every lesson contains pictures, can be read and listened at the same time. There are many questions through the lessons, so I could always make sure that I memorized the most important things. It was possible to contact the diving centre in case I had any question, but the lessons were very clear so I did not really have them.

As not being a native English speaker having the course online without time limit gave me the possibility to check the diving terms (e.g. buoyancy, density, fin) in the dictionary and learn them before arriving to the dive centre, therefore when I arrived I did not have any language problem. I had to fill in only a short test therefore the school could check that I indeed know the basics. After this we directly drove to the diving spot and I could enjoy the sea immediately. Without this I should have spent my first 2-3 days in the class room. I had only positive experience and really can suggest this possibility to everybody.

Kind regards
